DIY programable option: CSL launch control and shifting (CSL SMG software)

Launch control looks AWESOME!

Note: This WILL wear out your clutch faster than stock. That said, all of the SMG and tranny hardware is the same between the CSL and US spec M3-- so you won't be wearing it out any faster than BMW intended for things to wear out on the CSL.

Edit: DIY guide by terraphantm here.

edit 2: fix needed for some people:

I am running into an issue flashing my SMG DME with the CSL software.

I have WINKFP running and my cable seems fine (INPA detects that my battery and ignition are on when they are).

But I get an error that my HWDNR.da2 file doesn't contain "7843255". I opened the file in wordpad and sure enough that isn't on the list of codes.

I've download numerous versions of the SP-DATEN-E46 file ranging from v28 to v41 but none of them have this chassis code.

Can anyone help point me in the right direction?

Thanks.

EDIT/UPDATE/RESOLUTION:
If you are using the PDF instructions posted inside of this thread:
http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=377715

There is a small but important step missing in the setup of WinKFP. After copying the two directories listed in the original PDF file, you MUST also copy the files from inside of the ...data\gdaten\ folder that you downloaded as part of the E46-SP-DATEN (I used v41) and paste them inside of C:\EC-APPS\NFS\DATA\GDATEN.

This step resolved the errors I was getting with it stating the "7843255" was not present in the HWNR.DA2 file even tho that software is not included in the file list when opened in word.

I'm not sure why this was left out of the instructions or if it was a function of what version of BMW Standard Tools I had, but sorting this out took a few hours and I figured I'd save others the trouble.

For reference I used BMW Standard Tools 2.11.10 and found v41 of the E46 DATEN files (it was posted as a rar file that contained a single ISO file).

ok this is just a mean post, you can't post a video like that with a heading like this and not have a write up on what was done.

SMG Software #s (latest as of Ista/P V41):

US: 7843254
Euro: 7843252
CSL: 7843255
Japanese: 7843253

There are several ways to do the software update. My preferred tool is WinKFP... Dealer should be able to do it too if you can convince them to manually input the software number.

so basically if I go to a dealer and say I want SMG software number 7843255 then basically my car would then have the CSL program? Do Indy shops have this stuff available to them, or it has to be a dealer?
