Re: Dropped a shim

Flushing the oil at this point isn't going to help - its shaped in such a way that there is a pocket in the front by the timing chain, so if the shim is indeed there, then it'd never magically jump...

Re: Dropped a shim

Yes, the timing chain goes all the way into the oil pan (I once dropped a small wrench in there, because I like to punish myself).

Re: question about installing coilover

Yes. Unless you have lowering springs on, there's a considerable amount of compression on the spring.

This is definitely NOT the safe way to do this.

Check out your local auto parts store - many of them rent tools, including spring compressors.

Re: How many of you haveBently Manuals?

Proud owner - it's also nice to have another point of reference (on top of your diys), especially if you're tackling a big job (ie, clutch replacement).

Re: New coilovers noise

Clunking over bumps? I'd double check the the nut that secures the piston to the top mount/camber plate, like Prit suggested. It being even slightly loose can cause clunking over bumps.

well, you could sit here and speculate, and hear all kinds of wild, unsubstantiated diagnoses, or you could take your car to the dealer where they might actually be able to tell you what they think...

Sounds like it gets louder toward the back of the motor. How's it sound coming from under? Say, around the transmission?

Re: Q for those with AST coilovers...

I was curious about this as well, as my rears don't have any set screw. I've had them for about four months now and they have not moved.

Yes, it was hard. But I had an SMG to deal with, which required another $500 worth of software.

Re: 07 z4m seats in 04 m3 vert

So it appears the seat pan in the Z4M Sport Seat is the same as the E46 M3's. I wonder if the seat back frame is a direct swap. This way we'd retain our factory seat rails.

Re: VANOS and Cam Timing Tool Question

I've removed the caps as quickly as a few hours after I last ran the motor (to not burn myself on hot oil) with zero problems.

+1 on not having heard anything about the new bolts, yet.
