Is there significant power feel with the following setup or should I stick to the 17# injectors from my 95 M3.
If it is a good setup, what difference would a 3.5HFM give? From an engine management standpoint: a) use 95 intake manifold b) use 95 fuel rail c) use 99 fuel inj, 21.5# (install them in the 95 fuel rail) d) use 95 HFM e) use 95 DME with chip cut for 21.5# inj, 95 hfm, 95 DME. You will need to look at your DME to provide TMS the proper number of it. f) 95 throttle body |

ok.. i did this very same swapp...
to put this in the most simplist way... unconnect the engine bare untill all you have is the head & block with all its sensors attached, and connect the following -wiring harness -and all components (ALT. P/S pump ect) -M50 mani & hoses -valve cover (obdI will be a direct fit.. unless you want to use the s52.. that will need some modification) & basically all the s50 components..... try to think of it as a normal engine swap. NOW..... when my s50 went, i allready had a 540maf and i upgraded to s52 injectors.. so thats what i did.. my chip is STILL currently on that tune.. and my car runs strong.. (keep in mind, soon after the swap i upgraded to 24lbs injectors) Dont forget to buy the temp sensor harness from turner.. along with the coolant hose adapter.. good luck & enjoy.. this alone made my car a beast!!!

If you're going to do it, do it in one sitting, and do it right.
My recommendation having ridden in many OBDI 3.2s: a) use 95 intake manifold b) use 95 fuel rail c) use 24# fuel inj (install them in the 95 fuel rail) d) use 3.5" HFM e) use 95 DME with chip cut for 21.5# inj, 3.5" hfm, 95 DME. You will need to look at your DME to provide TMS the proper number of it. f) Riot Racing big bore throttle body g) TMS shorty headers h) UUC stage II LTW Flywheel and clutch I've ridden in a few cars with a setup like that and it felt great. Tons of mid range torque with lots of top end. An OBDI chip that's not tuned for 3.2 is usually the chip of choice, apparently it gives more torque. If I had a 95 and couldn't afford a euroswap, that's the route I'd go for sure. |

I think that with the added displacement, the S/M50 intake manifold from the old motor, the headers and midpipe from the new motor, you will gain 25-30 hp.

I have heard the following for those doing the conversion in an already OBDII car ('96-'99):
Don't bother with a '95 fuel rail. I heard that an OBDII rail will work. I heard that there is no reason to swap out the coolant hard line, negating the need for the coolant pipe adapter from Turner. Anyone? Last edited by clovold; Tue, Feb-03-2009 at 06:43:51 PM. |

I could see that small of a gain if the S50 already had the late exhaust manifold and midpipe (or aftermarket ones). 0.2L displacement alone will not make a massive difference. Its the mods that make the difference -- putting the S50 manifold on the S52 and installing the S52 exhaust manifold and midpipe with the S52 instead of using the more restrictive parts from the old S50.

Most of the people going to the S52 swap either have very tired high mileage S50's or broken S50's. It is not worth it if your S50 makes good power to begin with.
