Default Composite Cover OR alum cover?

ok after finding out after the mechanic replaced my valve cover gasket and sparks plugs i noticed that my engine was leaking motor oil now. Took it back to the guy that did the work he said that made sure the bolts were tight. My question is they want to replace my aluminum valve cover with a newer composite valve cover. So i let them? He gave me a story about the heat of the engine warped the valve cover and made it crack and that he could replace it with a composite valve cover because he talked to a bmw tech that told him the composite was better then then aluminum valve cover. What would REALLY make my alum cover crack?

You seriously took your car to a mechanic to get a valve cover gasket done?
