Default What am I leaking? HELP

I noticed today that there was a small spot of what looked like oil under the front left (sitting in the drivers seat) side of the engine. When I went to touch it is was dry and hard but a bit sticky.

Any idea what this could be? Is it dried oil? I don't seem to see a leak under the car although there is gunky stuff in that area.

Thanks,

Jason

Is it black like oil - or lighter like cosmoline?

It is more milk chocolate brown them black. I just looked up "cosmoline" and I think that is exactly what it is...So...what would cause that to come off? It is in a smallish looking pile like wax.

Sounds more like cosmoline to me.

Get under the car with a light and see if you can find some dripping cosmoline.

What would cause cosmoline to drip and where would it come from? I do see / feel some stickyish stuff on the underside of the car.

Cosmoline is used as a rust inhibitor/protectant when cars are shipped via cargo liner overseas. That's probably what it is. They are supposed to watch it off at PDI but sometimes don't get all of it off.

Is it normal that it would leak after over 2 years? Granted it only has 7k miles.
