Default Guys - can this be fixed?

Long story short I bought a Dinan exhaust from another member and it arrived damaged. He's going to file a claim with the carrier but I'm concerned I'm going to get stuck with this and have no recourse. If that ends up being the case, do any of you have any reccomendations on how I may at least be able to bend the bent tip back into place without causing more damage? Thanks.

How was it packaged? Sufficiently?

It all depends on if it was insured for the proper amount and if he packaged it right.

You should not get stuck with this, demand your money back if UPS denies the claim.

It was packed very well. The shop I had it sent directly to said they can't figure out how the damage occurred because the packaging seemed fairly undisturbed.

By any chance did you get any pictures of it before he shipped it to you? I have a habit when I sell something to take a dated picture of the item before I package and send it out. Sounds like the seller duped you.

as far as fixing it though. the tip can easily be fixed. don't worry about the first picture. thats not going to affect the performance of the exhaust. it wont even be visible.

Bring it by a body shop. $20 and 10 mins later it should be good as new!

I would ABSOLUTELY not fix that muffler.. you need to be concerned with the internals of the muffler, not the dent on the outside. I would only fix it after exhausting my other options first.

With a hit that hard, the tack welds on the inside could have become undone, the packing could be damaged and depending on what its packed could start to come out or at least change the exhaust note/flow. I can think of a several more reasons why to not get that fixed, not to mention when you go to sell it again it will be pretty much worthless.

Go after the carrier, that thing was extremely mishandled, even if it was packed poorly.

Upon a second look, it looks to me like you can see scrapes on the indentation on the dent. These scrapes would only occur when you have contact between metal and another substrate, what I mean is that if the muffler was in the box when it happened that the cardboard would not allow the muffler to be scraped , only dented.

In order for that severe of a dent to happen the box would definitely have a mark. You should put the muffler back in the box the exact way it came and try to line up the dent with any external cosmetic damage on the box.
