Default LTW/GT carbon fiber

So I just picked up a used carbon fiber center console (shift surround) from a wrecked LTW; problem is the carbon fiber separated intact from the surround. It is in 1 whole piece with no cracks just no longer attached to the surround. What type of glue or process can i use to reattach it? i do not want to mess it up as the piece is NLA from BMW or any vendors.

It looks like it just pulled off the mold, it is not damaged or distorted in any way.

Anyone with CF experience that can recommend a process or glue to take care of this, i called a CF shop and they want $175 to fix it based on pics but i would rather not incur that cost.

I'll ask my dad's wife. She's the engineer who signs off on carbon fiber repair documents for Lockheed. If you can wait a couple days, I'll get you an answer from a carbon fiber expert.

What surround? It wasn't a carbon wrapped part to begin with. It is what it is.

Richard, the 1995 M3 LTW and M3 GT both came with Carbon Fiber wrapped center console, ash trays, and dash strip above the glove box. For your information it is part number...51 16 2 261 318

Never said it wasn't carbon, Just that it wasn't a carbon wrapped part. The ENTIRE part is CF. As you can see in the pic. There was no "BACKING".

I don't think this is right. I remember seeing one of these cars at the dealer when new because my dad had a deposit on it and seem to remember it was just CF laminated to an injection molded console. Not only that, production on an all CF piece would be rediculous. The mounting holes would need to be re-inforced and all kinds of other PITA stuff to form it and fit it with an OE look. Laminating CF to plastic is much easier to generate a factory-finish piece. And I'm prone to believe the guy who has one in his hands. The CF just needs to be re-bonded to the injection molded plastic sounds like the issue here.

Mpresv is 100% correct. I just showed the piece to my mechanic who actually owns a LTW and he confirmed that it is an overlay we compared it to the one in his car plus a call to BMW N.A. Confirmed that many of these pieces delaminated on the LTW's and were replaced free of charge.

Mpresv, thanks for checking for me, I spoke with a CF shop today that is gonna relaminate it to the center piece with a vacuum machine for like $100 or so

Look at the freaking picture. The part is complete, it's carbon. Done... There's a reason it was a $650 part....

Dude I know you hate to be wrong, but this time you are!!! I am holding a complete part out of a LTW with the part numbers and BMW stamp clearly on the back side. The carbon is attached to a plastic mounting piece, the carbon part is actually 15% red kevlar, 40% gray kevlar and 45% black carbon. the plastic mounting piece is exactly like the actual regular piece in any other 3 series that is wrapped in leather only this one is laminated with the "carbon" mixture. I have not only reasearched this throught looking at another complete piece but took it to the dealer and had 2 techs look at and confirm that my piece delaminated from the plastic injection molded plastic frame and was advised that it was common to not only the US LTW but also the Euro GT, there was a TSB about it and if the owners of these vehicles took thier cars to a dealer with thier delaminating center consoles, they would be replaced free of charge, hence why BMW has no more available because the extra stock was depleted. end of story.... sorry Richard but this time you are wrong, especially seeing how you probably have never even handled this piece in person, many pictures can be deceiving, bet ya even think that the LTW door sills are real carbon, but its not its a decal!

attached is a photo of a delaminating piece that another member has....
