Cant find anything (didnt search to hard either)
But are the half shafts the same for right and left side? I bought a few spares (for rainy day) and looks the same, but wanted to double check

Different part numbers, so they must be different, I guess.
And I'm just guessing here, but I don't see what could possibly be different, unless the splines are designed to be stronger in one direction than the other... |

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...89&hg=33&fg=25 If there are two part numbers, BMW uses two different parts that are not interchangeable, otherwise, they will list the same part with a quantity of 2 or more. For example, the front brake rotors look nearly identical, but are directional thus they both have a unique part number. That said, I wouldn't interchange them if not specified.

How can i identify which shafts i have if no # is seen? Is there a engraving of some sort?

Yes, all original BMW parts will have a part number somewhere on them. After thinking about your question more, I'm thinking that the part numbers must be different because they are directional. You have to look closer at the shaft. From what I remember, the numbers are stamped into the golden colored steel near the boot where it connects in to the differential. What do you have on off the car and unsure about the part number?
