Default Why doesn't anyone use BMW brand high performance 5w-30 motor oil?

I use it in all my bmw's. e30's, e46's and now my new e36 m3 project. I keep reading about the 0w-40 5w40 mobil one but I can't even find that crap anywhere. So I just either go to Turner Motorsports or head to the local dealers and get oil....

Why can't i find anyone using BMW oil when I do a search? What the hay

I use it. According to my dealership counter guys, it's just repackaged Castrol 5W-30 Synthetic... But I use it because they sell it to me for $5/qt., which is nice...

I was using it, but recently I switched to Castrol 5W-30 Synthetic since I don't have to go to the dealer to get it.

I think the only real reason is because of the price markup. If you can get it cheap, or are just rich... do et.

15w50 Amsoil...

was using 15w50 Mobil 1 Extended Performance (yellow cap) and I couldnt find it anymore. Switched to a 15w40 Royal Purple and ran that for about a year, and didnt like the characteristics of the 40 weight when hot at the race track. I have since switched to the Amsoil 15w50 I am currently running, and absolutely love it

BMW brand oil is not any more expensive than Mobil1 or RP. I just don't understand.

Last time I checked the BMW stuff was $10 a quart everywhere and the M1 same weight was $6.50.

They're both closer to $7/$8 around here when I've bought them both in the past.

I bought 7 quarts from Schomp (C470 and Lucent) for $5.99/quart FWIW.
