Default Newer OEM style Nav/radio swap?

This was just something that I got to thinking about and wanted to know if anyone had any good information regarding this. I know it's not practical, but I personally think it would be neat to have the newer style iDrive system in my E46 M3. Right now I'm more concerned with what needs to be retrofitted together rather than how I would plan to fabricate the dash to accomodate all of this. I guess the first place to start would be looking at the wriring diagram for the entire system. Does anyone have a pin out of the harnesses for the new style radio/nav? What kind of sensors are wired into the system?

Again, I know this is probably a ton more work than what it's worth, but right now it's just an idea. I'm not set on doing this, just trying to figure out if it's doable (i.e. retain most of the functions). To note, I'm not an expert at all, but I am very competent with working on electronics. No "just get a dynavin and be done with it" posts please, I'm just looking for technical information! Thanks in advance!

other then retrofitting in the dash it think its very doable and simple. you'll need everything from harness, amps, tuner, i-drive, dvd player, nav head unit, gps atenna..etc. perhaps find a totalled e90 and go from there

That's what I was hoping to hear, just wasn't sure if there were specific data lines that were linked to the ECU or some other type of computer that wouldn't easily be integrated into and different body. I also need to do some reading on realOEM to see if the E60s and E90s share common parts in the radio/nav/i-drive system, that way I can include wrecked 5'ers in my search. If I can find a great deal on all these parts then I'm pretty sure I'll go forward with this. Otherwise I'll just resell the parts and try to make some $$ back
