Hi All,
Quick question by a newbie to the forums: Are parts labeled "OEM" on here by the various sponsors always 100% original BMW parts? If not, how can I tell the real deal from the fake? (Note: by fake I don't mean poor quality, rather, parts that are manufactured and sold by secondary manufacturers; i.e., not BMW) Any info would be greatly appreciated. Best, J |

Well, you would have to rely on a sponsor's integrity. You can also look up part numbers at realoem.

Thank you for the response. So what your saying is, all things equal, OEM should mean 100% original? That's great. I just wasn't sure if there was an accepted interpretation of OEM to mean something other than original parts. I know with some products, there is. Thanks!

Before you buy something, always do your homework, cross reference part numbers.

What you typically want is OE. OEM just means that the same manufacturer made them, possibly to the lowest bidder in China. I find a good place to get OE parts is parts.com. But you have to search their OE catalog...they also have an aftermarket catalog. The nice thing about parts.com is it is made up of a conglomerate of dealers all owned by the same guy. I want to say I heard he owns over 100 dealers of all makes nationwide. A lot of times, if you call them, the call gets routed to one of their BMW parts counters at a random dealership (if you are calling about a BMWpart). I have talked to them a lot for Mercedes Benz parts and I am often talking to the parts guy at MB of Naperville in Illinois. Their prices are really good too. Way under MSRP.
