The previous S6 also kicked ass

In Car & Driver, Motor Trend, and Automobile magazine, the S6 out-cornered and out-braked the M5. The S6 finished first in Motor Trend and 2nd to the E63 in Car & Driver + Automobile mag. The M5 finished last in Automobile magazine and Car & Driver as well (where BMWs normally finish first)....

its a tough toss up between the AMGs and the M5 for sure

for me, the last thing that the M5 has against the competition is a manual transmission

the day they abandon that, then AMG it is.

S6 still won. So I guess it did belong.

BMW M has lost its way and is not even competitive with Audi S.
