Default MAF Issues?

I have a 95 M3 with a CAI, Cat Delete, UUC rear exhaust this is my issue
When i have my MAF plugged in the car barely runs. I swaped the MAF and it still does the same thing. With it unplugged it runs fine like nothing is wrong? I drove the car from Indiana to SC and didnt miss a beat the whole time. Had lots of fun through mountians getting on it and everything. I am just putting some feelers out to see if you guys have heard of this issue. Thanks.

  1. What does "barely runs" mean? Please be as detailed as you can.
  2. Did you swap the MAF with a known good unit?
  3. Have you checked the wiring harness to the MAF very carefully to make sure there are no broken/exposed wires?
  4. Is your ECU stock or does it have a aftermarket tune?

If you start the car and let it idle it sound like it is missing real bad. If you push the gas it dies.
I got a MAF from a friends car that worked fine and put mine is his, is no issues and mine with his plugged in same thing.
I looked at the wiring as far back as i could until it went into a wire budle and without cutting it apart looked good.
I had a Turner chip in at the time then put my stock one back in just to see and same thing.
If i leave it unplugged it runs fine shouldnt the ECU be having issues not know what the airflow is?

I know this is weird, but follow me: With the MAF the ECU can try to optimize the mixture. Without the MAF it will stay open loop and run pretty rich. So, what could be wrong that is irritating the ECU with the MAF plugged in? I am still thinking, but is it throwing any codes? It has to be...
