Hi guys I'm a proud new owner of a 97 e36 M3 with 144k

I have a problem with the engine, its making a knocking sound and i'm not comfortable with it

Its sounded like its coming from the bottom of the engine, and I havent got a clue

This car have a header , as I was told from the previous owner, and any input, advise is greatly appreciated guys

Does it increase with RPMs? If it's coming from the block, I wouldn't drive it, in fact I wouldn't even let it run much more than it already has. If it's rod knock, you're going to need to either rebuild your current motor or swap in a new one, which is not a fun job. I'm in the middle of the same project, so I know. Did you just buy the car? How long has it been knocking for? Are you low on oil?

This type sound is often caused by a loose spark plug. Check them and hope that is it.

This. Also take a close took around the periphery of the header to head joint to make sure you don't have a hole.

That said, it sounds like rod knock to me...

Research? How about just go out and tighten the spark plugs?
