Just wait until a good condition, low miles/well maintained M3 comes along in either of those colors combinations. That will be your ultimate decision factor, not just personal preference of red exterior vs white exterior.

It's the engineer in me but....
...why not search for both IR/IR and AW/IR and whichever comes up first with the options that you like and the price you're comfortable, you buy?

Both colors combo's are rare, so I don't think you'll have a ton of choices. However opening your search to include multiple color combo's will be better. Personally, when I searched for my M3 I wanted any color except black exterior...I'm just not a fan of any black car. After narrowing down the options, mileage, transmission I wanted I found there were very few choices left. This is how I found my Interlagos Blue ZCP and couldn't be happier. I imagine the same will be for your situation.

I searched for AW/IR for a few months and found nothing worthwhile. Ended up getting a Silver gray on imola red which was my second choice. I prefer AW/IR over IR/IR, but they both are nice.

if you're ripping your hair out at this point, I'd stay away from an M3

umm, this is over color, has nothing to do with the known problems with these cars. That's some really good advice there my friend

This is probably what is going to end up making my decision. Whichever color comes first between the two will ultimately make my decision. But as for now, looking at pictures of white and reds will continue.
