in nj they often do a sniffer test, and the people that work, dumb as they may be, step in and out of cars all day, everyday for a living, they know what a catless car smells like.

i just go to a friend's shop that does inspections, and pay them for the sticker.

Another question related to this thread. My car hasnt had the recall flash for the cats done yet and Im approaching 80k miles as we speak. I plan to install catless headers in the near future anyway so is this recall beneficial at all for my car since Im removing the headers soon?
I would get the emissions recall done before you install the catless headers. Some guys have had luck w/ the SES light not coming on after the recall because it basically desensitizes the post cat O2's. I had it done before my header install, unfortunately my SES light still illuminated. I'm looking into O2 sims at the moment as this is the easiest fix. I made sure to install my headers right after my latest emissions test so that would give me a whole year to figure out how to pass.

Just install a catted sec 1, drive it for a few miles, then check for codes. I've done a few header installs with a catted section 1 and they had no issue passing emissions here in Cali. And Cali is pretty strict with emissions, believe me! If you are already showing the no post cat codes now, reset your ecu when you install cats. Give your ecu some time to adapt to the cats again. GL!
