Humm. 8k. Reminds me of the e28 M5 I sold earlier this year (157k miles). I bought it right and drove it a couple of years and sold it for what I paid. But I did have to dump in some $$.
I would really want to know what a non-running M3 is worth as you could be faced with a large repair or selling a car needing a cash infusion. Said another way, the car is worth $8k now but if something big breaks, it will certainly be worth much less. Of course, your max loss would be 8k... ![]()

you're going to have to put some money into it at some point, but $8k is by far the cheapest e46 m3 anyone's ever seen.

That looks good to me. For $8k, you can't go wrong. Just have a shop check the subframe, or take it a to a BMW dealer and check to see if the subframe was already checked. When I purchased my M3, the dealership found it was already inspected, and I had an indy shop double check it.

This is really what it boils down to. Forget everything else. Yeah, you could part it out, if worse comes to worst. You want to drive it though. There aren't always people wanting to buy the parts, and it can take months for that right person to buy a SINGLE part from a "part-out". THEN you're out $2k automatically that you can't get back, $6k for who knows how long (Could be a week or months upon months.), ALL with no car to drive. Have a very TRUSTWORTHY and THOROUGH person look it over in and out, AFTER you have all of the records and have closely examined them. Notice how I said AFTER you have the records and have examined them. If you can get them all, forget it. Don't go any further. Plenty of nice and reliable cars for $8k. An E46 Non-M 3 series (323i, 325i, 328i, maybe a 330i.) that has around 75k miles and spotless maintenance can be had for that. It's not an M, but it is still nice, still a BMW, AND it is very reliable. Not to mention a lot less to maintain and better gas mileage. If you aren't financially able to afford the initial cost of an E46 M3 (Average price on a mid-miled E46 M3 is about $20k.), you DEFINITELY won't be able to afford the proper care for the car to keep it running the way it should. A lot of people on here will say "HELL YEAH! GO FOR IT! AWESOME! IT LOOKS D0000PE!", but when it comes down to it, look at their cars. They want everything perfect and wouldn't touch one anywhere close to the one you're looking at. I am not knocking the car, I don't know it and haven't checked it out. A member who earlier posted in this thread, Obioban, is racking up the miles on his E46 because he drives it. The thing people are supposed to do with their cars... And his car is healthier than anyone's on the road, because he is extremely meticulous about maintenance and up-keep. So, because it has 200k+ miles does that mean it is crap? No. Are the odds against it? Yes. It all is in who drove it, how they drove it, and how they maintained it. It could be a jewel of a find for a steal of a price. Just seriously go by what I've said though. It's really easy to get upside down in that car if everything isn't right... |
