e30's and e36's are a completely different thing.. there were like 1400 us/euro e30 m3's built and there were 70000 e36 built.

My e46 m3 is in perfect condition and i picked it up with 38k miles (oem nav, coldweather) for 18k and he wants nearly as much for a 46k e36? ridiculous.
You have no idea what your talking about bro!! There were a lil less than 5k shipped to the US alone not including the euro specs. I have my fare share of m's and still do. E36 m3's hands down are the most reliable and best handling! E46's are great but I like driving my e36 over my e46 all the time. The newer the M is the less of a real M it is!!! E30's and e36's have history and will always hold more value in the near future over e46's and e90's! Sorry but your plain jane e46's probably equipped with a smg are a dime a dozen!!!
