+1. Ditto on the attitude. Moderators here don't volunteer - that's about as good a way to never be considered for being one as any.. we were asked to be moderators. How does that happen? Existing moderators spot someone who deals fairly with other people, seems rational, has some knowledge to share and is mature enough to not get in pissing matches with people. They are then discussed in the moderator forum as a potential mod.. and if Trev sees a hole that needs filling, they get asked if they would be one.
It's a time consuming job. Besides handling the huge amount of spam that arrives here, PM's take up a lot of time, and just browsing the forums keeping an eye out on things is time consuming. Several of the forum moderators no longer own M3's (like me..) so that makes it even more of a "chore" - it isn't as if we're browsing the forums to expand our knowledge on a car we own. I do it because the forum helped me with enjoying and working on my M3 - and I hope I can help someone else with the same. It's called passing it on.. The pay for all this - $0.00 No perks. No discounts from sponsors. Benefits include frequent attacks of all kinds by deranged members and ex-members (they're out there..) If you have constructive suggestions - please post them.. just understand that ones that add to the moderator load aren't real likely to be put in place when the majority of problems are caused by users trying to score a "deal" and throwing caution to the wind. There has to be some personal responsibility on the part of the members who use the For-Sale marketplace. In the lastest complaint thread I closed - the buyer wanted to be paid via PayPal as a "GIFT". Guess what? That's dishonest, it's stealing from PayPal (who I dislike as much as anyone).. What makes the buyer think this person who has shown themselves to be a thief is going to be honest with them? 'duh. A bit of common sense might have avoided the whole episode. And if it seems too good to be true - it generally IS.
