visually a superb movie, why did that buff guy in the beginning kill himself (and contaminate the water)?

I'm surprised how many people missed so much obvious stuff... (not you in particular usdmej :P)

There's an awful lot of simpletons saying how much they didn't like the movie and I find it hysterical.

Besides the character devolopment, what didn't you like about the movie? Are you a fan of Alien?

I have quite a few friends who consider themselves highly intellectual (doctor/attorney) and they asked what it was about after the movie was over. Shaw tells everyone that who they are seeking out "engineered us". But I can see how the general public, who probably isn't onto Sci Fi, Alien, whatever comes away like, "what was that about."

No one knows and it was left out intentionally. I think the best guess is that since David was programmed to do Weyland's bidding, he asked Weyland's question pointing to immortality (not Shaw's question). If you watch the scene close enough, he doesn't seem bothered by Shaw's question, rather bewildered, and then sees the merc hit her violently. That, showing that humans haven't changed, and Weyland's arrogance probably sent him into rage mode...

im a big Ridley Scott fan and I love the first two aliens. this was a let down because I expectedsomething more and had no affinty for any of the characters.
