Default HPDE Tire Advice

I have an '03 M3 that is pretty much stock (except brakes), and I'm trying to do the most HPDE's as possible this summer. I feel like I'm progressing nicely (getting smoother, faster), and want to keep my suspension pretty much stock until next year so I can learn the car better.

I've done 5 track days on Michelin Pilot Super Sports, and the outside edge of the tire is almost gone. No cords yet, but the tires are definitely wearing unevenly - 70% to 80% remaining on the inner and middle of the tire, and it's only a matter of time before I see cords on the outer edge. I've dialed in the most negative camber possible for stock suspension and fiddled a bunch with air pressure to try to limit the outer edges demise, to no avail. I've read a bunch of things where people have the same problem, and it's fixed with adding more negative camber which I can't do unless I get camber plates.

Which leads to my question... What tires would you choose next (for my dedicated track wheels)? Should I stay with the PSS's, go to R Comps (Pilot Sport Cups, R888s, NT-01s, others), or something different? The PSS's have amazing grip, I really like them. Night and day better than the original Pilot Sports or Advan Sports I've used on the track before. I don't really want to step down in grip, but the PSS's are pretty darn pricey. Is there a tire with better outside edge wear for a car with 1.5 degrees of camber on all 4 corners?

Any input any of y'all have is greatly appreciated.

I don't think the tire selection is going to help you much. Have you swapped strut tops already?

I haven't swapped strut mounts, no. I would think a tire without such a soft outer edge might help me.

You need more negative camber. Swapping the strut tops is the way to do this without installing camber plates/coilovers.

And there is really no point in R comps for you until you can get the camber and suspension to take advantage of them. <-- says a non R comp driver.

Swap your strut hats. If you pull the strut all the way out at the top you'll only have about -2 degrees of camber or so, if you don't want to eat your inner tire edge up as much during commuting.

One way to decrease tire costs is to get a tire that can be flipped on the wheel. That way when the outside edge gets eaten up a bit you can flip it and voila`, you have a new outside edge to use up.

Also, until you are advanced, I'd stay on street tires. You'll learn more.

This is a great tire and good price also http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....ireMake=Dunlop

It is a directional tire but you can swap left tire to right wheel and right tire to left wheel when the outside edge gets eaten.
