Default tires?

so I have a question about tires. I know that I could go check actual specs and measure how much tread is left per tire.

But just as a feeler, is it common for people to go through front tires faster than rear tires? Or is it just my impression that I feel the wear bars closer on the fronts than the rears?

please don't flame, honest question.

Fwd fronts wear faster. M3 rears wear faster at least for me.

Rears are suppose to wear faster. When you accelerate, the rear tires get more stress/contact and therefore eats up more tire.

Agreed. My rears need to be replaced now actually. I'm sure it has a lot to do with how you drive too.

Probably two rear tire replacements per one front tire replacements on the E46 M3.

one more tidbit of requested information.... on these cars, how low on tread can one go safely? obviously before the point of slicks...
just want to know if my tires even warrant changing or if I'm just not used to running sport tires.

The fronts will only wear faster if you do a lot of hard cornering, and even then I would think the rears should still wear out faster.

On my 335, I could see the inner construction of the tire before I swapped them. I do not recommend doing that.
