Could it have something to do with the heater control valve?

Try checking your final stage resistor also. May also be called a final stage unit; part #64-11-6-920-365-M6 on pelicanparts.com. I had this issue with my 330ci, hot air in one, cold in the other, abnormal fan running, etc. It's worth a shot. 67 bucks. The biggest pain is getting beneath the passengers left foot kick panel to install it. Small hands are necessary, as is patience. Give it a shot.

I experienced it in conditions like you explain, but just once. I dont think my needle was 3/4 but it was over the usual 12:00 position with a/c on. When i turned off the a/c it did return to normal. That was almost 2 years ago and it has not happened since, although i do tend to stay indoors when its 100+ and humid these days. .

. . however, i did not have a problem with cold air inside the cabin when this was happening.

After this happened to me i felt something was wrong as well. I bought coolant and wanted to do a flush. I was advised by someone i thought i could trust not to do the flush, that it would be pointless. I have not had a problem since, but found an article recently and am kicking myself for not just doing what i believed to be right from the beginning. As mentioned above, it can get expensive quick if you do have issues and this is a good place to play it better safe than sorry. As the additives break down in BMW fluid, hot spots can be found in certain areas that are not being protected properly anymore. This breakdown is usually what causes parts to weaken and possibly fail early.

I dont know anything about it, but i use my ac differently when its real hot. I use the interior air that is already cold with the filter button pressed twice. . whatever its called. .in my head i feel like the system would have to work harder to maintain otherwise. I could be way off, but no overheating?

Once u did the Flush your a/c went back to running normal? I cant avoid hot temperatures here in miami, FL its always hot! lol

If you have a few miles on the car, it might be worth blowing out the condenser and radiator with compressed air from inside the car, inside the engine bay that is. Over time they can get clogged with seeds and bugs and dust and dirt.

Well it hasnt been overheating lately but still throwing hot air by one side. If it is the final Stage resistor would it cause the car to slightly overheat??

the final state resistor explains the hot air blowing on one side and cool air on the other (at least before your a/c system totally stopped working) -- but it doesnt explain why your car is overheating - likely you need a full coolant flush - go w/ 70 to 30% distilled water to coolant ration and throw some water wetter in there as well (also as noted above, have the radiator cleaned) - my car never overheats even on the track in miami w/ 156k on the odo
