I think he means to unplug the lighter completly, put in a new fuse and start the car to see if the fuse blows. if it does blow it's the wiring harness.

If it doesnt blow, turn off car and reconnect the lighter. When it blows the fuse again you know it's the socket.

if you want to know how to remove the plug i can try and walk you through it. let me know.

actually removing it was my problem as well i did the squeeze and turn. If you can remove the dash parts to access it then just do that and it will come out from the front. I squeezed to hard and it bent the metal. If you get a new socket it would be a quick swap. Let me know if you have questions.

Sorry to revive an old, dead thread but, searching for information on how to remove the cigarette I came across this post and thought i'd update it with a little bit of info for future searchers.

The lighter socket in the dash is held in place by two plastic clips on either side of it. push those clips out with a pocket flat head screwdriver and it'll drop right out the front. If you need pictures or more info just PM me.

I just had to take out my cig lighter as well. Has anyone ever had any problem with the wiring in the back? The ground (brown cable) was easy to remove and reattach...however the white cable clip (the positive) was very hard to remove and now I can't seem to get it back on the back the lighter. Am I doing something wrong? Appreciate any feedback.
