It was a pleasure meeting you and your family, and thanx for allowing us to work on your beautiful M3! Like Dave said, the install was relatively straightforward, and went smoothly (thanx to the low miles and good condition of your car). Let us know how the first drive goes when you get back...think I tightened that CPV all of the way???

BTW, I can still mail you another shorty stud if you want...

Hello Dave, it was a pleasure meeting you. Thanks for the valve adjustment on 4-14. Great service right in my own garage. M3 runs smoother now. Thanks again.

^ No problem Vader!

Did Willie46Bong's valves on 7/7, had four cylyners with out of spec valves. Willie, PM me your email address, I'll send you a spec sheet for your records.

So, within 6 weeks of buying my M3 with 70k miles, I wanted to do all the maintenance I could think of which included a valve adjustment. (I didn't think inspection 2 was done yet...later on we find out it wasn't).

I knew when buying the car I wanted to do the inspections and valve adjustments myself, I decided to have Dave (dafoe) do the first one so I could watch and learn (he even let me do a valve).

He was excellent, adjusted 18 of 24 valves in under 2 hours while talking to me over half the time...plus he even let you drool on his M3. He brought all his tools and extra rings and parts incase whoever you ordered from messed up your order. I also got a record of each valve and record of shim to keep with my records.

Literally, after the adjustment was done it was like a completely different car. It has a little more when it gets to the rasp and it's just so smooth. It used to grumble, tick and shake...I came from a 2001 325 (had it for 6 years and it was my first car). People said the M3 was loud...so I figured it was normal. Now it just purrs, no ticks. He also showed me the cam bolts, checked to see if they were backing out, and inspected the exhaust tab.

Having bought the car in an unmaintained state and now having the valve adjustment done, VCG kit (Both done by Dave), spark plugs, air filters & the CDV it feels 10000x better. If you're on the fence about the maintenance just have Dave come out...he by far exceeded my expectations.

Well, had the scare of my life last week.

I was doing Alex's (lilrizalboy) valves, took the valve cover off... as usual always check the exhaust tabs and intake bolts first... I've done a ton of valve ajustments, and the hub/bolts have always been good...

NOT THIS TIME!!

This is what I see...

I thought OMG, told Alex he's got a broken tab, and the look of anguish on his face was hard to see... Immediately saw that the tab was lodged in the oil pump, and not coming out... thought to myself, anguish at first, but boy was he LUCKY!!!

Told him to order a cryo treated hub from Dr. Vanos, and NOT to drive the car, as it's a ticking time bomb. And if the severed tab breaks loose from the oil pump into the timing chain, motor will be toast.

Glad to say my man ordered a new cryo treated hub, and I came out yesterday to perform the surgery, and extraction project. My wife's ingenious tool she crafted that saved my a$$ last year when I dropped a shim in the valve train came in handy, as I was able to put a magnet on the loose tab prior to removing the vanos fully... So props to my wife, and great job Alex for holding that sucker steady while I slowly moved the vanos assembly away from the hubs...

I am so glad everything worked out, and I was able to save an M3 from certain death...

Broken tab with Vanos removed...

New shiny cryo hub!!

Alex, I am glad everything worked out for ya!!

I can't believe after doing so many valve adjustments for local guys, that I've gotten the time to completion to about two and a half hours... depending on how much I am talking! lol

If your doing your own valves, and have any questions, hit me up! I also have a few extra commonly used shims, so if your in a bind and run out of a particular size, hit me up.
