Default Car vibration and limp mode

So as I was parked at a stop light this afternoon all of a sudden I felt the car hesitate and start to vibrate uncontrolably, after engaging into 1st gear I noticed the car went into "limp" mode. It's like all of a sudden I lost 200+hp...

Only mod I have is a Vcsl boot and the DICE ipod kit. Took it into the dealer this afternoon as my warranty is still up, just wanted to check if anyone on here knows what the problem is...coils? MAF?

Sounds like defective coils.

dealer called back today, defective coils.

Are these just wear and tear items that go bad after a while?

They're not wear-tear, but they do go bad with some frequency. Check the stickies for the letter from BMW to see if yours are under warranty. Normally they replace all 6 at the same time. If you're paying for them - ask for the good ones back and toss them in the trunk as spares.

They should replace your coils w/ the "new and improved" coil pack which should have an "ERA" stamp on the top of the coils... there is an SIB for it.
