Yes-do a search in the Northeast Regional Thread section. I've dealt with them before. Look at their cars VERY CAREFULLY! have a PPI done and a carfax. Their cars look pretty on the outside with low miles, but they will have multiple owners, shady car fax, and body/paint work done on their cars.

Keep in mind of small items like seat bolster and brake pedal wear, which are good indicators of high mileage.
Yea but Ian's brake pedal, seats, and floor mats looked like 100k miles when he only hit 10k. So even this indicator is not always reliable.

As well as the BMW maintenance records (which should ALWAYS be checked when purchasing an M3) would also probably be inconsistent.

FYI.. carfax may have incorrect, incorrect mileage reports due to insurance reporting. DMV, and service records are correct though.

For those that have said its easy to do ... it's not. The cluster and the LCM (light control module) share information with each other. If a person were to swap a lower mileage cluster into said car the cluster will illuminate a red dot indicating mileage has been tampered with.

Google "odometer tampering" and "odometer rollback" and see what you get. There is one particular entry that consists of the court papers of a FBI sting operation that is hilarious - - reads like an episode of the Sopranos. It involved a New Jersey auto key & glass outfit owned by a certain Italian gentleman known as Bobby Cars. The car used in the sting operation by the FBI was a 2000 model year e39 BMW - - the digital odo was easily rolled back by Bobby Cars. Despite clever "traps" in the BMW computer it seems that rollbacks can be done.

I have heard the exact same from a service manager at a bmw dealership mentioning to watch out for some kind of red icon of some sort on the cluster indicating mileage was rolled back.

As an afterthought, it might be interesting to see the comments of Jim Conforti, IBM software engineer, on this topic. He posts mostly on the m3post.com/forums for the e90 m3s. I'm sure that BMWs are a tougher nut to crack than most, but with the right software/laptop it is probably easier than most think and may do it without trigering the red dot signal. The articles on Google indicate that despite traps it is easier/quicker to rollback digital odometers than the old fashioned mechanical ones.
