Yea I brought it to a friends shop. He got it out by hitting the hex in real hard with a hammer and then it came right out. So I would suggest making sure the hex screw is in ALL the way.

Resurrecting as I'm having this trouble too...Any danger in "hitting the hex real hard with a hammer"? Potential to damage the oil pan or is this the best and safest suggestion?

Depends on what "real hard" means to you. If you hit it hard enough you might crack the oil pan. The oil would drain out real well after that, but kinda hard to get the new oil to stay in.

I'd suggest seeking professional assistance.

How much disassembly would be needed to use vice grips to get it out?

Also my friend recommends using JB Weld and just welding a hex bit to the plug and then try and take it out. I think I'd prefer to use vice grips if it's not too much trouble.
