Default Rear Seat Release / Latch

Hello Everyone,

I just joined the M3 community, and I'm hoping someone can help me out. I've got a '99 coupe that I just picked up a couple of weeks ago. The previous owner had done a number when he ripped out his custom stereo. While trying to put in my replacement, I discovered that the drivers side rear seat release is broken.

Is there any way to get this thing to release? Also, does anyone know the proper name or part number to get a replacement? Anyone done a repair on these?

I've already received innumerable tips from this board, Thank you all very much!

It's such a simple latch, but it is very strong, because the seat belts are part of that whole seat latch assembly.

The latch itself is just 2 strong hooks that will be pulled up with the operation of the release handle. If that handle somehow came off the hooks, then, looking at mine, the only way I could think of getting it unlocked would be to break through the top part of the latch assembly in the top of the seat, with a screwdriver or something, and pull up on the 2 hooks. Then replace the whole latch assembly.

It doesn't look like you can get at it from behind in the trunk.

Let me know.
