Default Need Track Pad Suggestion - I Love PFC-01 but...

Okay, so my PFC-01's on stock calipers are coming to an end and i need to buy some new pads incase they don't last the full session next time.

I love the PFC-01's but, damn if they aren't expensive for the 4-corners (~$500 after shipping from BW). Without a sponsor i'm feeling the heat

I am thinking about going with Hawk since i have a friend that can get a significant discount on any Hawk pad. I've heard great things about the HT-10, but that is coming from like 20 E36M guys, not the heavier E46M's.

I know some people that are running DTC-70's on various fast/heavy cars with success but they are all BBK users.

I want to know how something like a HT-10 or DTC-70 would compare to PFC-01 --- on an OEM caliper, on all 4 corners...

I don't want brakes that will go half-assed. I have the BW cooling kit installed, but never needed to hook up the inner ducting with the PFC's as they never got too hot, so a pad that needs to stay cooler is possible without any additional work/cost for me.

Thanks for your feedback !

PFC01's have a higher temp rating than the DTC70's. I like my DTC70's, they work great on my car with the power I have, but I also have stoptechs front/rear...

I overheated the HT-10s all four corners when I tracked the M3 for the first time (I had been to the track before) and I immediately bought a used Stopteck front kit.

Since then I have run the PFC-01 (my favorite because of the bite but moreso, because of the modulation and feel) and the DTC-70 because I am able to get them at a much more reasonalbe price. If I were you, I would try the DTC-70 at all four corners.

I spoke to a Hawk rep at Summit Point last year at a NASA event, and he suggested the DTC-70 over the DTC-60 because of the weight of the M3. The DTC-70 has a higher torque rating and is designed for a heavier car.

They don't feel as good as the PFC-01, but they stop the car effectively and confidently over and over, like the PFC-01s. They are more like an on off switch I find.

let us know what you decide and how it turns out.

I have nothing but good things to say about the HT-10. I highly recommend you start there...you will probably have to look no further.

I just tried a set of HT-14 for grins, and I really really liked the way they felt, but they practically disappeared before my eyes.

Edit: Oh, and, on different occasions, I have used the DTC-70 and PFC-01 in back to back sessions when I wore out a set of HT-10s. No difference with the PFC-01, and a huge difference (much more torque, too much) with the DTC-70. I wish I could say that I mixed up some -10s with the PFC01, but the way PF stamps the pad with a big "01" makes that impossible.

thanks for the feedback so far guys.

i'm surprised to hear about cooking the HT-10s... sounds like what happened to a leftover set of HP+ i tried... they were literally smoking after 3 laps.

and yea, doc, you're one of the DTC70 guys on BBK i was referring to, the other being an Evo9 with stock brembos.

What you need to take into account is I'm shedding alot more speed than you are. For instance, at Pueblo I'm banging off the rev limiter of 4th gear on the front straight.

So the pads are holding up very well to lots of use.

IMHO, the HT-10s are weak, and the DTC-70s can be brutal on rotors. Why not try the PFC06 endurance compound? People are getting absolutely stupidly long life out of it.

i wanted the initial bite like the PFC-01 (hence DTC70) but was under the impression that the -06's were less bitey, which is how they got longer life out of 'em. can't be a win-win (aggressive and long-life) for the -06, could it ?

Reports are marginally less bite, but they don't go away. The HT-10s will go away on you.
