Interestingly, epoxy IS in fact used in the construction of a number of production vehicles, including the Lotus Elise. Virtually all of the bonding strength of the car comes from an epoxy, with small rivets used to hold it together until it is cured.
Time to cure is solved with an oven - Araldite 2015 (which may or may not be used in the Elise, depending on the source) takes 21 hours to cure at 50F, but only 7 minutes at 212F.
