If you're in Socal, I'd recommend going as far as AZ or NV to pick up a used car. The desert environment keeps cars in really good shape (no rust issues) - as long as they are properly maintained to address dust issues.

There's a red E46 M3 coupe (6-sp) in Tucson listed for under 20k right now.

Just a bit of advice on the pricing. Some folks find really good deals, and they are out there, it can just be hard to find. It really depends on how rare of a car it is and where it is located. Color, transmission, miles, etc play a big part in how much it will go for, irregardless of what KBB says.

As any example, here in the Bay Area, CA....a 2003.5, Silver Gray, Blk Int, 6MT with 56K on it sold for 23.5. He was asking 24.5. It looked to be in very good condition, but wasn't that well optioned and had a hole the size of a dime in the front bumper where the previous owner had hit something in the garage.

The guy had 10 calls on it and 5 people lined up within 2 days to look at it within a day of posting it for sale. I was the first to have a chance to look at, couldn't make it, and he sold to the first person to look at it.

I just wanted to give you an example that just because folks have found better deals, you might not be able to depending on what you want, how clean you want it to be, and where you live (if you don't want to buy unseen or travel)

Definitely be patient and wait for what you want, but also don't pass something up that is a fair deal and meets your criteria just because you think you should be able to get it for 1-2K less.

Just my opinion. Good luck. BTW, TiAg should be pretty easy to find, 6MT makes it a little harder.

Hey, Didn't want to bother starting a new thread for a similar question. I talked with a seller and am going through the normal process of getting the car checked out, but when listing previous maintenance, he told me he had a fault with the vanos and the dealership replaced it. He didn't know what the fault was, just that the check engine light came on, he took it in and the dealership said it needed to be replaced. Is a vanos problem an indicator of other possible problems, or if it's replaced should it be fine?

I just got my 04 with 27k miles for $26k...not the best deal but good enough for me. Buy it if you're sure you wont have regrets later.
