Any of the VW's/Audi's that I have ever owned/own have all been great. Have they had their little flukes here and there? Yes, but nothing that was all that big of a deal, the key to VW/Audi is strict religous maintenance and you are good to go, as long as you stay away from 1st year of productin, and wierd models such as the W8 Passat. From my ownership eperience, VW/Audi have always been more reliable than Mercedes/BMW, but then again when I purchased any of those cars, I didn't care about reliability as my primary concern. If I did I would have been in the Honda sales lot.

I was always curious about why a person would buy the W8 Passat when a 540 could be had for $4k cheaper...

No, that "hill holder" clutch or whatever is not on this car. She'll have to learn the whole shebang... Pretty easy car to learn on. Lots of torque. Smooth downshifts are very difficult though.

As far as the maintenance and such....i fully expect she will treat this car like her current car and not beat on it at all.....she is a girl , so that should minimize the potential wear and tear of someone constantly beating on it.

I gotta say I am petty excited about her liking the S4, something about a chic driving a badass car.

The only reson I can think of is the Ferrari esque exhaust note.
