Default Passenger side door locks with key but doesnt unlock?

When i press unlock on the key fob only the drivers side unlocks, then i will proceed to open the passenger side door from inside and all is good. Then when i go to exit car w/ a passenger and press lock from the key fob it locks both sides. So basically it wont unlock when pressing the key fob even if i hit the unlock button 5 times. nor will it unlock when i press the unlock/lock button inside of the car. I'm confused, because i would think if something was broken it wouldn't lock automatically but it does, so is there like a feature on the ecu or a actuator in the door that is making the car not unlock the passenger side automatically?

Thanks in advance!

i think your actuator in the passenger side is shot. my first m3 had that exact same problem, was a ***** to replace. the easy way to do it is to remove the glass and you have more access. but once removing the glass, i heard the bolts dont really go back on well, they will come loose overtime or something, maybe loctite? the way is to orient it in such way that it will JUST get in, tight fit, with some elbow grease. its 51217011250, tischer sells it for $109

i have a spare used actuator that works. Bought it thinking I was going to replace mine but never got to it. PM me

I bought it off a forum member that thought his was broken but actually wasn't so his stock one was working fine. It was something else. If you can get a part # i will see if it matches. since I have the same exact issue. Have to manually open door from inside to unlock passenger side.

Ha, I was having the same symptoms with my car earlier this week. Wait it out a little bit, it may start working again. Otherwise, replace your actuator.

Mine has been on and off as well. It would unlock sometimes and other times it wouldn't. What is suggested above is the permanent fix I believe.
