Even I can do it. Just hold it by the base and don't touch the sensor wires. Basically handle it like you would a halogen bulb. Or a bottle of nitroglycerin (kidding). Spray the crap out of it, and reinstall it facing the same way it came out (as I recall, it only will go back in one way anyhow). Be sure to have the right size safety torx bit, and one helpful tip I didn't know was that you squeeze the electrical connection to disconnect it. I'm lucky I didn't ruin the damn thing trying to pry it off with a screw driver.

Correct, but additionally be careful taking it out and putting it back in that the business end doesn't bang or scrape on anything, which is how one member fubarred his. No, it's not fragile, but it is an instrument to be handled with care and respect.

...and they do cost a couple of C notes or more.

When you say the fan wasn't spinning do you mean the mechanical fan on the engine?

No that was spinning, and the temp gauges never went past halfway.

Update - Did 160km (100mi) tonight, and had no problems at all. I reconnected the battery to make sure it was all good and tight before I ventured off for the afternoon. I'm chalking this one up to either:

a) poor battery charge
b) poor battery connection
c) some bad gas

Thanks for the help fellas, to you all.

Glad you got it all sorted out, bro. A dumbshit delivery driver brought us some gas that was actually E85. He dumped it into our regular 87 gas and fudged up our whole line. I mean we're talking out of business for 5-7 days since we had to wait for the EPA, repair guys etc. etc. etc. The only way we found out was when people came back a few hours later saying they were humming along on the freeway towards the Grand Canyon and then the car just suddenly died. 20k in damages to 40+ cars. We're still in court fighting our distributor lol.

I'm gonna guess bad gas if you guys have the 10% mix like we do. It sucks because that's all we've got so it makes it tough for the cars to sit. But, like I said, glad to hear your M is up and running at full steam.

Alpine, our S54 is a very sensitive and precision engine. If it was a bad tank of gas you may want to run some type of recommended fuel injector cleaner or something thru with the next tank of gas just to make sure she's running tip-top .... You dont want any residuals hanging around in there....

It has happened to me to. Just charge your battery, nothing else and make sure it is well connected. It happened to me twice. First time negative was loose and the second time was after draining coolant when I let the heater on and it drained the battery.
