Lets just say she "Found" the one she wants... I wonder how this is gonna play out in the future? I mean dont get me wrong I have plenty of time till I need to start "seriously" looking, and she says she doesnt care about anything other than having a nice ring And she is gonna be the bread winner when we are older (dentist).

So maybe I can make a deal, Tiffany's ring for 2016 911 GT3 or something

My wife isn't really into flashy jewelry. I let her pick out a ring without really telling her a real budget, though I was think about 5k. She picked out something really simple for 1,800. WIN!! The wedding band that mached was 1,200. I love having a "frugal" wife.....until the time comes for me to buy a nice car...

Saved up and bought her one for around (too much) but....
Anyone here that bought one from Tiffany's got

Also, make sure that wherever you buy it doesn't charge you sales tax. In most states, the jeweler is able to mail an empty insured box to one of your relative's house in a different state, and you're not liable for the sales tax since the purchase was "from out of town"
Saves you a bunch! Tiffany's won't do this. Again,

Paid a bit under 5K for a reasonable quality diamond solitare with a simple (yet platinum) setting. A pretty solid bit under the "salary" figure the jewelry salepersons want you to go for. (Hmm, I just had a thought. Do you think they want you to do that to enrich themselves?) Got something big enough to be noticed, and still looks great naked eye. Who's gonna walk up to your wife with a loupe to look for imperfections at 10X magnification anyway?

But seriously, why go completely above good sense for engagement ring? Leave some room to do a wrap or an upgrade for an anniversary when your incomes are higher.

Oh, and you can get better deals when you work around the margins of carat size. A .95 carat is substantially cheaper than one carat and a 1.1-1.2 is not very much more than a single carat, etc.

Yeah i'm looking to spend about 10-15k total too. I'm going to purchase any day now.
I was in Amsterdam and Belgium this weekend doing some diamond shopping but that was a waste of time. I actually got offered sex from the saleswoman in amsterdam if i bought the diamond she wanted me to.

I think it was just under 10k. Blue Nile (don't know if it's been mentioned, skipped ahead) has great info on the 4 C's, and you can search their inventory by price range, stone shape, and sort on any of the C's. Pick the stone, choose the setting, and you're done. No matter what you spend or where you get it, cut, color and clarity are much more important than carat weight.
