thanks for the suggestion. It actually groans w/ just a slight turn (either way), not only under full lock. Only groans when the car is in park, when driving and making turns its fine. I will look into that reservoir. Thank you.

well I just went ahead and ordered a new pump just b/c. This noise has been there since I bought the car last yr, and chances are that pump is toast anyway. I'll be replacing the pump, reservoir & p/s hose thats leaking all at once. Hopefully this fixes everything.

btw if anyone wants to order the pump....i ordered through www.thepartsbin.com & used coupon promo code "tpbcart" at checkout and got another $22 off!

*UPDATE*
i replaced the pump and leaky p/s lines a couple wks ago....and groaning is GONE!

paid around $270 shipped (+ a $50 rebate for my core) for the pump from thepartsbin.com, and couldn't be happier. I couldn't fathom spending $600-700 for an OEM one.

For those of you who chose this route, mail back the core using (USPS flat rate boxes). Only cost me $10 to ship back the core for that heavy part.

Good info. Did you replace the PS pump yourself? If so, do you mind sharing your experience? I ordered a new Reservoir and if this doesn't fix my problem, I will also need a pump.

yes I had a friends' help and we both tackled it. Its pretty damn easy actually. I recommend replacing both accessory belts while you're in there too (one was around $10, the other $20). To give you a quick run through of what we did:

-dropped the belly pan
-removed the front fan shroud cover (i only removed the left side of it)
-removed the front fan (a little tricky since we had to wedge a long screwdriver to get leverage to remove the fan)
-located the tensioners to untension the belts, and they pretty much popped off
-from below unscrewed the bolts that hold the p/s pump, and there was just enough room (close to the front axle) to squeeze it out.

-reverse the above and you're done.

Sorry I don't have any pics of the install or bolt sizes, but to be honest it was only about a 2hr job tops (and that was taking our time)...and I replaced the leaky line as well. The hardest part (which wasn't even that bad) was removing the front fan.

Thanks man, highly appreciate it. That is the exact answer/information I was looking for.

btw wolfe, i am veryy skeptical that replacing just the reservior alone will get rid of that groaning. I didn't replace mine (which i may or may not regret), but i know I should've.

oh one other thing i should add....we pumped out the old P/S fluid using an extractor my friend had. We just dipped the extractor into the reservior, and pumped out the fluid that way. The rest dropped down from below when we removed the pump.

When you're done reinstalling, remember to bleed the system (which entails turning the wheel full lock both ways, and refilling the p/s fluid to its appropriate levels).

Cool and yes, I knew about bleeding the system. I have a DIY for the PS fluid flush, just not removing the PS pump. With your steps, I will be fine.
