Default 05 M3 Nav headunit won't read any discs

I just bought an 05 M3 with navigation a couple weeks ago. I updated the software to version 32, and have had no problems with the DVD drive in the trunk reading either CDs or the navigation DVD. A few days ago, I decided to throw a CD into the headunit (inside the car), and the screen says "error." I tried several brands of CD-Rs, as well as some retail CDs. They all say "error." Could the firmware update have caused it to stop reading CDs? Unfortunately, I didn't test this before updating the firware, since I did it the day after I got the car. If I do have to replace something, will I have to replace the entire headunit (screen, etc.), or can I just replace a particular part that is prone to failing?

I highly doubt the firmware would cause the head unit cd player to not work. Try power reseting everything by disconnecting both radio fuses or disconnecting the car battery for a minute. That might fix it, try it first.

Probably its the CD drive unit within the head unit.

There is a source on Ebay, who repairs the head units for these apline head units. You might want to check with him, i believe he charges like $180 or so but is reliable.

Or if you don't want to go through with the hassle, you could just replace the head unit with one from ebay (~600).

However, if you do go that route, send me the old unit .
I wouldnt mind using it for some "experiments"
