I performed an oil change this morning and put in the correct amount of oil but i don't know what's wrong with my car now. Runs and drives fine, except for the service engine soon and EML indicators.
Any suggestions? Thanks! I followed the DIY at http://www.madrussian.net/m3/diy_oil_change.shtml |

i recently did my fluid change (engine oil, transmission, and differential) and i had the same thing.. the lights will go off after 6 cycles of engine start i think. the only thing that still bothers me is that when my key is in the ignition position 1 (not fully turned on, only the electricity is turned on), the EML and SES light will go on but once the engine turns over, those lights will go off. in addition to that, the XXXX miles to oil service/inspection is still on too at key ignition position 1.
i think the main reason is that you are supposed to disconnect your battery when you do the oil change. also, after the XXXX miles until inspection light goes to zero, you have to run the car 500 miles (if i remember correctly) before you can reset the computer. it's not hard to do either but i can't do it now because my XXXX is not zero yet. correct me if i am wrong. |

^^Pretty sure that those lights are normal in Position 1; I can't remember which lights are always on in Position 1, but there are a few. It's not necessary to disconnect the battery when you do an oil change.
OP your SES and EML lights are likely normal, and will go away after engine cycles.

That was my idea too. Everyone's done that once.
