Default So I got a parking ticket from a cop, he left the "day" field blank? Filling Quota?

I parked my car on a boulevard (Boulevard East in NJ if anyone knows) overnight.

In the morning, I come at 9AM, I see a ticket on my windshield and it's not the local parking authority. It's a police ticket.

Supposedly I commited:

RES PARKING (Which I believe, restricted parking)

Brand, color, plate number everything is correct. Time says 08:00AM.

Date: 12/ /2009. Day field empty.

This is the "crime committed" section. At the bottom, there's another part with a date field. Same thing. 12/ /2009.

The cop intentionally left both day fields blank and gave me a ticket for nothing.

I live 1 blocks to where I parked the car and have been parking on that boulevard for over 2 years.

No bus stop, no fire hydrant, no yellow line, no special ramp for wheelchairs, no white lines etc. Nothing.

There's only street sweeping on Tuesdays, which was yesterday, even if it's Tuesday, it's 9AM to 12AM, so there's no way to get a ticket at 8AM.

I took pictures of the car with my cell phone, and I would plead not guilty.

This time, there's a court date on the ticket, which says 12/18/2009. The back of the ticket says, I can plead not guilty until 7 days before the court date

So, the cops are filling their quotas? What is going on?

I will go to court on Sat. and talk to the public defendant who takes care of the tickets, although my case is not there.

Sounds like some shady parking po-po to me.

It means that you are getting a ticket regardless of when you are parked there. So you pick the day
This ticket is bogus and should be contested. Don't fill the missing info since that may itself be a crime. A date is a required component of any valid legal doc which your ticket is.

OP, I think you should go talk to the prosecutor if you have time to kill, and it may end up getting thrown out. While you should come out on top and I wish you the best of luck, isn't it like a $20 fine that won't effect your insurance rates?

Well, it's a $55 or $65 ticket. Got once, can't remember...

Parking authority tickets are $35.00 for street cleaning and $25.00 for overtime parking.

I'm not concerned about paying the ticket, but that jack*ss just gave the ticket for the hell of it. I checked the cars in front of and behind my car, nothing on them.

I will post the pics soon.

Maybe there was a real crime nearby but the officer didn't want to get involved and wanted to look like he was preoccupied with writing the parking ticket...

In any event, yeah definitely contest it. Laws of course differ depending on location, but same thing happened to me, I contested, and won. An actual police officer (as opposed to the ones on foot that only write parking tickets) wrote me a ticket for being in a 15-minute standing zone for longer than the 15-minute limit. But I was there no longer than 5 minutes. I had just left my parking garage, which records the time I enter and leave the garage, and if need be, can use that info to contest that the time I left the garage was no more than 10 minutes from the time written on the ticket. I took pictures of the car and the standing zone, and sent them in along with a letter to the county telling them that the ticket must be thrown out. I didn't include any real evidence of my innocence...just a statement saying that I could get evidence if I needed to. Obviously, it was enough for them to throw the ticket out. I'm sure they didn't want to waste more time/money to further investigate the issue than what the ticketed fine was worth. Good luck.

My bad, the parking tickets I've gotten are only $20. Yeah, it does suck but that's what you get sometimes for driving a nice car. I got a tint ticket a couple months ago and the officer put down my incorrect address. I tossed around the idea of going to the prosecutor and seeing if it could get thrown out, but it just wasn't worth the effort for a $56 fine. Good luck OP, fight the system.

Oh, talking about nice car, it happens to be my Z3. Thank god my M was in front of my house.

Here are the pics.

The signs say no parking on Tuesday 9AM to 12AM. And recycle!

Something like this happened to my wife in Cleveland. She was out with girlfriends in the city and actually had her car towed by the police to an impound lot. No signs, cones, flags or tape that would indicate a non-parking area.

She had to take a cab to the industrial area of the city and stand next to all of the other victims of this scheme to pay her $150 in order to get her car back.
