While I do agree we all need to watch for bikes I also think it ultimately falls on the rider to protect themselves. Even the best drivers lose focus now and then. I am sure the OP has almost merged into someone at some time in his life. If not you have not been driving long.

Verts have terrible blindspots. Sounds like the op just got a bit excited and a wakeup call. I finally sold my k1200s just for these occasions. Sad to see it go but nobody sees bikes like you hope they would. Ride safe!
