Default Top Gear hosts turn down offer from BBC in favor of joining Netflix

Quote:
This week it emerged James May and Richard Hammond have been offered 4.6m to film Top Gear with a guest host, however it appears the pair will turn the offer down in favour of joining Netflix with Jeremy Clarkson and executive producer Andy Wilman.

A source told The Mirror:

“Flattering though it is to be offered huge sums there’ll be no going back. It wouldn’t feel right and their heart wouldn’t be in it.
“They’ve always said they come as a team and that hasn’t changed.

WOW!!!! AWESOME NEWS!!!! I did not know that they had Netflix in the UK but I assumed they did. It was a great move on both parts. Top Gear would not be the same without JC and Netflix will no doubt gain some subscribers! Even though the show gets repetitive and a little boring sometimes, it is still the best car-entertainment show on TV. Hopefully with this new partnership they can breath some fresh life into it. If we are lucky it might even be better. I guess we will see. Either way, with that trio, you know you will at the very least have a show with good chemistry and some laughs.

When it comes to acting that's chump change. They'll make way more money from Netflix since there isn't as many middleman to jump through. It's literally pure profit and they can do any type of show they want. Netflix won't care, just them having a show brings millions of viewers.

Why ever would they return to top gear when they can make X% more elsewhere. Its not like they are 30 something with 30+ more career years ahead of them. Most likely 10-12max and when someone is offering you literarily millions more pounds to do a show the way YOU want to do it with a bigger budget only an idiot would turn it down.

As most of us said when Clarkson was let go, they will simply end up somewhere else making more. Frankly, it will probably be better on Netflix than on BBC anyway.

Great to hear for the fans. Terrible news for the rest of the Top Gear brand.

I've been calling this ever since Clarkson punched out the cold steak serving boob. NetFlix is about to get a huge boost

BBC will rue the day they stopped catering to their most popular show

I was thinking he was going to go Chris Harris style and create a YouTube channel. It'll be hard to tack down the same resources that they had before (track, etc. etc.)
