Ugh, another lockout It's reasons like this that hockey is essentially a niche sport in much of the US. While everyone here blames Bettman, and I agree that he is a total douche, he isn't the only one at fault here. The owners share a fair amount of blame, for handing out huge retirement contracts, and then wanting to cap the length to 5 years? Also, the players and Donald Fehr share a huge amount of blame. The players get 57% of revenue. Compared to the other professional sports that is pretty high. The owners were going to lock the players out the second the NHLPA hired Donald Fehr. Fehr was horrible for baseball, what makes this situation any different. I feel like a new CBA could be reached, but both sides need some common sense; however, neither side seems very keen on compromise. I love hockey, but its hard to support the sport when the fans keep losing like this.

this lockout bullshit is primarily the reason why I care about Hockey less and less.

The players, the owners, they're all a bunch of dickbutts. This is ridiculous already. You're playing a sport not saving the ****ing world - you already make more money than 99% of the world's population.

This is the exact reason why I hate Ryan Smyth, and to be honest, a large portion of the league is just like him.

Claims to love Edmonton and the Oilers, leaves over $500,000 on a $6,000,000 contract :|

Claim to love the sport, doesn't play over a couple hundred thousand on an average contract of $2,000,000 a year :|

The fans are the ones who pay everyone their money and keep the revenue flow going, and we're the ones who get screwed again.

Give me $300,000 a year and I'll play for them without complaint.
