Default Connecting a Datalogger to the CANBUS +/-

Hello!

I happened to picked up an AIM MXL Pista for a good price used. It was previously used on a Yamaha R6 motorcycle, so I purchased a new wiring harness from AIM to connect it to my E46 M3. I've searched the forum here and quite a few other forums attempting to understand the best place to splice into the CANBus +/- wires coming from the ECU. The AIM documentation provides some high level assistance in terms of determining the wire colors.

Where is best place to tap into the CANBus +/- wires keeping in mind the total length of the harness wires?

Any help or guidance in general would be greatly appreciated.

Next up, figuring out where to mount the unit with a stock steering wheel.

See if this helps

I don't think that it really matters where you splice in. I made a custom harness for my E92 so that I could install it into one of the connectors as opposed to cutting or crimping on to the wires and it worked fine.

As for where to mount it - I am mounting mine on the column where the stock controls used to be... but mine is a full blown race car and I don't need those controls.

Thank you!

It appears that I will need to run two wires to extend the CANBUS +/- from the harness up to the ECU. The AIM harness is only ~12" long and that is not enough.
