Default Rear Deck Rattle... FIXED

Well, I've done every fix posted on all the different boards. I've stuffed yards of velcro under there, tried the bolt fix (won't work on '06 M3's), used tennis balls and felt taped the sub, every clip, bolt and trim piece. Nothing worked.

Here's my particular solution: Remove the battery tray cover in the trunk, it's on the passenger side. Look down into the battery well. There is a black plastic shield between the positive connection and the well wall. It's held in place by a clip and a bolt. The clip attaches to the 'north wall', if you will, and the bolt attaches to the 'west wall' or interior rear fender. For those of you that have installed the factory alarm, the bolt also holds the tilt sensor in place.

Remove the shield and completely cover the back of the shield with felt tape (or something similar). Put some felt tape on on the sheet metal where the shield touches (when you replace it). And replace the shield. Done.

No more rattle. I would have sworn it was coming from the rear deck. I am so f'ing happy!

*UPDATE ON PAGE 7* I tackle the B-Pillar Trim, Post #67.

Ok... anyway the point is, if you can't fix your rattle, check out this possible cause.

Exactly! Bumps or rough pavement. It made a vibrating, buzzing, rattling noise that was making me insane. Especially since every fix thread I read and tried didn't work. Since a lot of members installed the factory alarm themselves, I thought this would be helpful. Hope it works for you too.

It happens to me when I have the sub on full bass setting and am listening to music moderately loud.

Yes, felt tape on the back of the shield and on some on the sheet metal where the back of the shield touches it.
