I am having trouble here trying to decide which ones would be better. Cross drilled, slotted, or both. I have heard that cross drilled rotors are more racing and only look cool. I also heard that because of the holes the strength in the rotor is decreased. But for slotted i heard that the slots cool down the rotors(like the cross drilled do) without weakening the rotors. I havent heard anything really on the both drilled and slotted. Can anyone help me on making this decision. thanks

What do you need slotted or cross-drilled rotors for? Is it simply for bling or for track usage???
If you don't intend to track your car, and you have the standard disc brakes (not ZCP), then leave it alone. The standard brakes work fine, are less noisy, don't eat your pads as fast, and less prone to metal fatigue fractures. If you do intend to run your vehicle hard on a track, then forget about the OEM cross-drilled rotors, or any of the cheap eBay junk. Buy yourself a set of Brembo BBK's and be done with it. |

Drilled for show, slotted for go (err stop).
![]() I've heard of a few track guys (Porsche and Bmw cars) say their drilled aftermarket rotors were cracking after only a few events. I've heard at least one M3 guy say he loved his slotted rotors and had them for a while (on track) with no cracks/issues. Depends on what you are doing with your car. I'm sure drilled would work fine for the spirited street driver.

if the drilled rotor is from a mold its stronger then a solid rotor that had the holes drilled through it. i was always partial to dimpled/slotted rotors, less partial to cracking then a drilled rotor... unless you spent the big money and went with a rotor that is poured into a mold instead of being drilled. i loved dimpled/slotted on my 4800 pound lightning with some hawk hps brake pads.

Slotted rotors are supposed to eat through pads like butter don't they?

Based on my long conversations with a brake expert....
Slotted and Cross drilled are a bad idea. Show me one pure track car that has them and I'll be sold. This is just for bling. Pick one or the other. Not both. Call our forum sponsers who specialize in brakes and see what they tell you.... better yet, call the sponsors who actually race.... |

Ive read that cross and slotted keep your pads super clean. Is this true? That in turn is supposed to set you up for great stops. Well that and the extra friction.
Also, i run my car like a car in the city, but i live near the border of the city and head out of town, today was gorgeous here so i was out and about, and absolutely love running my car hard out there. I found some great curvy roads with good straight aways all over, and am usually alone out there. Thing is i love running my car quick into the curves then DS to 4th but some curves ask for some serious braking. Now im not looking for any fancy brakes atm, but was hoping to get some possibly next summer. I love this country driving better than any other, would some cross drilled help my performance for this type of driving enough for me to notice? |
