Heated Seat Retrofit

Has anyone used the OEM BMW kit:

wow.. that looks kewl. i use to have heated seats before switching to CSL seats. i wonder, i can just get the heating elements and retrofit it? i believe i have everything else.

Since you already have the harness/switches in place, I wonder if you could just buy a kit like this:

i'd prefer to stay OEM as much as possible. i have my oem leather seats, i'll take a closer look at them and see if i can just buy the similar heating elements and plug/play. yes i believe its just a simple 12v heating element. the stock connector on the oem seats allows for additional compnents to be added. on my CSL seats, its the identical connector but of course the heated element plug is not there. i'll update you what i find

How can you tell from looking at the underside of a front seat...if it's heated or not?

Any definitive way ? Thanks bud.

yup.. here is the main connector for our M3 seats. i circled the connector which is used for the heated seat option.

from left to right:

1) power for electric seats (black plug 3 wires)
2) buckle pretensioner (yellow plug)
3) seat belt sensor (black plug)
4) heated seats (black plug)

Thinking about this more, do you happen to have a wiring diagram that relates to this? How many wires are dedicated to the heated seats (looks like at least 5?)

the connector has 3 pins. then the 3 wires split up. 3 goes to the back warmer and 3 goes to the butt warmer.

Hey Fern,

I now have the switch panel and the wiring diagrams for the car. Looks like the switch panel controls/regulates the heat (which is great) and now I just need to build a harness from fuse panel to the switch panel and another harness to run from the switch panel to the seats!

Could I trouble you to snap a picture of the connector that is mounted in the car that connects up to the heated seats? Or is it all integrated into the one factory plug?
