Default E92 M3: M-DCT Vs MT

With the release of the M-DCT system in both the E36 and E46 and with all the dramas that ppl have had, heard or read about, if you are looking at purchasing a new E92M3, will you go for the MT or take a deep breath and go for the M-DCT system.

Now I know the model hasnt been seen let alone tested but just wanted to guage ppl's mindset prior to the launch.

No deep breath needed, I would go for SMG in a heartbeat. If you need to have a MT get an E36 318i as a beater for less than 5K.

Id probablly go fot the SMG, I mean there is cars out there whos owners dream of having an SMG tranny and

BMW has it as an option, I would say SMG so all my STI and EVO buddies can dream

of the throtle blips when down shifting.

Im really unsure which way I am going to jump.
The reason being, my past few cars have been autos and my STi is manual which I have really really enjoyed. I just think ATM anyway, that I feel a lot more connected with MT. Being on this forum for as long as I have, I have never seen any issues with the MT setup, this is something BMW are very strong on, just wish I could say the same for the SMG setup.

Has anyone heard of any issues with the SMGIII in the new M5 & M6.

yeah good question Adam, I dont know what to say, a manual is allways more fun in my minda and more rewarding than and SMG

but that is why I have a E30 325i as a daily manual, and I love it. If I was to get a E90 M3 I think I would go with SMG, considering its a good reliable set.

I have seen a few posts on M5board regarding SMGIII failures in 06 model M5 which hopefully have been resolved in 07 M5 and M6. I hope by the time the M3 comes out, they will have worked out all the bugs. Even the hardcore manual guys on M5board seem convinced SMG III is the way to go in M5 which I guess would apply to M3 as well. If you asked me about the M5/M6 I would say SMG but with M3 I am kind of undecided. I kind of like the SMG even though I haven't owned one.

I'll wait to test drive both. Slightly swayed towards the SMG because I don't have it right now and desire it... but something tells me in the back of my head that I'll regret not having a clutch pedal.

Time will tell.
