Default rear view mirror

i am getting my rear view mirror replaced under warranty. i have the rectangular one and want to get it replaced with the oval one. Is that possible? I called my SA and he said he doesn't think they can do that. Anyone got that done before?

Thanks

probably not. I've never been able to get the dealer to do anything like that before

If you have Assist/ homelink then you need the rectangular one. I would take the rectangular one any way. The oval ones are prone to leaking and failure of the autodim feature. Do a quick search and you'll see.

Grrreat, now the rectangular ones fail also. Maybe we can adapt one from a kia, they seem to be working . I simply do not understand how long BMW can keep having failure prone parts and blame it on outside suppliers. They need to get thier act together or BMW's reputation will soon reflect the build quality thier cars. They can not keep resting on new fancy technology and funky design to awe people when the cars fall apart, ie door seals, or multiple sensors/electronics fail at such a rate it is considered a common and known problem but heavens forbid they issues a recall. Don't get me wrong, I truly love my car, but I have had more things fail on this car, and at expensive cost to me as they are out of warranty, then any of the previous cars I've driven. All cars/manufacturers have problems, but when have you seen a C-class, P-car or even a Japanes car in the $50-70K class w/ the amount of glitches the 3-series have had.

Sorry

Have not finished my coffee yet and need to call the Dealer to have my leaking mirror replaced and sched. a day to have the DSC control unit replaced, as it seems common but sadly out of warranty.

Two of the major auto-dimming mirror companies are Magna-Donnelly and Gentex. BMW sources mirrors from both. I know that the M ovals are Magna-Donnelly and I am certain that the squares w/ Assist or Homelink are Gentex.

If it's any consolation, Honda/Acura sources mirrors from Magna-Donnelly and Acura CL owners have had problems w/ them leaking.

Is the leaking due to hot temps in the cabin while parked?
my 01 oval mirror (no clown nose) works. I use a windshield shade and vent the moonroof & rear windows to keep the cabin cooler.
