Default Blower motor or final stage resistor?

Hey fellas,
The fan in my M has the symptoms of a final stage fan resistor going bad. The fan usually blows, sometimes at random it does not.

However when the fan blows, it also makes a "motor-like" noise that increase in speed with faster fan speed.

Should I really be buying a new blower motor? Or is the noise another symptom of the final stage resistor going bad?

Both symptoms occurred about the same time (maybe at the same time.)

sounds like the motor he's right. I think another indication of a final stage going bad is more erratic fan speed, like a mind of it's own. Not saying that it won't just make your blower randomly shut off as well. can't hurt to replace the final stage with the motor though....
